ESPM Graduate Diversity Council
Formerly known as ESPM Graduate Students of Color, the GDC was formulated by a handful of dedicated ESPM graduate students in the Fall of 2004. The GDC has grown into a core group of 10-15 graduate students representing each division in the department of ESPM. We became formally recognized by the UC Berkeley Office of Student Life in February of 2006 with the establishment of a constitution and a body of elected officials (two Co-Chairs, a Secretary, a Treasurer, three Divisional Representatives and a University Representative).
The ESPM Graduate Diversity Council is a graduate student group with a vested interest in the continued diversification of the students and faculty of the department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management. This necessitates an environment that respects and accommodates differing and broad viewpoints, accomplishments, and research interests. We work to increase the presence of underrepresented groups in environmental fields through recruitment and retention efforts including workshops, speakers, special presentations, and mentoring. We are committed to creating and maintaining a community among underrepresented groups in ESPM, while actively promoting and engaging in diversity initiatives in the campus community.
